Melted Reel is proud to announce our most ambitious undertaking yet: challenging (or commending) the rankings and fawnings of those most elitist of list makers, the American Film Institute, and their 100 Years... 100 Movies celebration.

One by one, we'll examine each film, and its merits, along with its place in AFI's rankings.

Of course, we have our work one and one-quarter cut out for us, because thanks to AFI's revisioning, there are actually 123 "greatest 100 movies of all time."

Over the next god-knows-how-long, we'll be running through and reviewing these 123 "greatest" movies and seeing how they measure up, and whether the AFI was right to rank them what they did. Of course, you'll be hard pressed to find a reviewer on this site who will forgive them for their tenth-anniversarry edition, when they added the two sets of new AT-AT Walkers in their introduction graphics, or when they CGI-replaced all the reviewers' pencils with T-Mobile Blackberries. (Yes, for those of you who don't get it, those are references to the "Remastered" editions of Star Wars and E.T., respectively.)

Anyway... On to the reviews!
